The biggest art show of the year is coming up! 2021 Additions to the City of Ottawa Arts Collection will be showcased at the City Hall Gallery from December 3rd 2021, to February 13th 2022. This exhibition will feature a variety of artworks added to the City’s Art Collection throughout 2021. The collection was started in 2001, and now comprises over 3,000 artworks made by more than 800 artists. Some of these artists include Jennifer Dickson, Nadia Myre, Lorraine Gilbert, Yousuf Karsh, Annie Pootoogook, and Meryl McMaster. New artworks are added to the collection in several different ways such as by purchase, donation, and commission based on a peer assessment committee’s recommendation. By showcasing these masterpieces, the creators of the collection hoped to enrich communities, support local artists, and form a visual arts history in Ottawa. Many would say that they have accomplished this goal and are still working toward improvement and enrichment. The City Hall Art Gallery is open seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and is situated on Laurier Avenue, near Downtown Ottawa.
